The Powerpuff Girls is an American animated superhero-comedy TV series produced first by Hanna-Barbera, and then later Cartoon Network Studios, for Cartoon Network. It ran from 1998 to 2005, airing 78 episodes that spanned six seasons. It is the first series in the Powerpuff Girls franchise, with its huge popularity spawning a 2002 theatrical movie, three TV specials (two of them post-series), a 2008 anime adaptation, and Cartoon Network's 2016 reboot. There is also a live-action TV series in the works as of 2020.
The Narrator describes the team's origin and the series plot in the opening theme song: Sugar, spice, and everything nice. These were the ingredients chosen to create the perfect little girl. But Professor Utonium accidentally added an extra ingredient to the concoction: Chemical X. Thus, the Powerpuff Girls were born! Using their ultra superpowers, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup have dedicated their lives to fighting crime and the forces of evil!
