The Powerpuff Girls is an American animated superhero-comedy TV series produced by Hanna-Barbera (seasons 1-4) and Cartoon Network Studios (seasons 5-6) for Cartoon Network. It ran from 1998 to 2005, airing 78 episodes. It is the first series in the Powerpuff Girls franchise, with its huge popularity spawning a theatrical movie, three TV specials (two of them post-series), an anime adaptation, and Cartoon Network's 2016 reboot. There is also a live-action TV series in the works.
The Narrator describes the team's origin and the series plot in the opening theme song: Sugar, spice, and everything nice. These were the ingredients chosen to create the perfect little girl. But Professor Utonium accidentally added an extra ingredient to the concoction: Chemical X. Thus, the Powerpuff Girls were born! Using their ultra superpowers, Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup have dedicated their lives to fighting crime and the forces of evil!
