Jellystone! |
Jonny Quest is a young boy and the titular character of Jonny Quest animated franchise. His voice was originated by Tim Matheson, then credited as Tim Matthieson.
He is an adventurer at heart and gets into escapades when he travels with his scientist father, Dr. Benton Quest. He is also joined by his best friend and adopted brother, an Indian child called Hadji, their bodyguard, Race Bannon, and pet dog, Bandit. During the 1980s and 1990s, he was joined by the rock creature, Hardrock, and Race's daughter, Jessie, respectively.
Character description
On the surface, Jonny is an ordinary 11-year old with blonde hair, an honest face and fair skin. He is commonly seen with a black turtleneck sweater, blue jeans, and a pair of white sneakers. In the original series and The Real Adventures series, he has blue eyes, although they were colored dark in the 1980s season of the former series.
He is studious and a kind son to his father Dr. Quest, though he is shown to be very unenthusiastic and impatient in his schooling, especially homework. But deep inside his othewise average exterior, Jonny is incredibly brave for a child of his age. He is athletic, and has a proficiency in judo, scuba diving, and firearms. He is also resourceful, and is been able to take responsibilities with his homework, show respect to adults, and be honest to those around him.

Biography
The Tagalong Adventures
As stated in the first episode of Jonny Quest, "The Mystery of the Lizard Men," Jonny's mother (then unnamed) passed away from when he was at a young age. The circumstances to how it happened are unknown, though it is likely that the tragedy is what caused Race Banon to become his tutor.[2]

The Mature Adventures of Teen Jonny
I Am Cameo
Having become old and retired, I.M. Weasel and I.R. Baboon live at the Old Cartoon Retirement Home, where Jonny also resides.[3]
Custody Battle
Running with Tom and Jerry
Everyone's Back in Jellystone!
Jonny is featured as a background character in the HBO Max series Jellystone!. In this version, he is an adult and runs Quest Bowl, the local bowling alley, with Hadji, who is implied to be his husband (and not his adoptive brother like with other versions of the character).[1]

Behind the scenes
In popular culture
- In the Animaniacs episode "The Taming of the Screwy", Slappy Squirrel compares actor Luke Perry to "a very young Jonny Quest."
- In the Freakazoid! segment "Doomsday Bet," from a one-off Toby Danger backup feature, Jonny Quest was lampooned as Toby Danger, with Scott Menville reprising his role as Jonny from the 80s incarnation of Jonny Quest.
- In The Fairly OddParents TV movie Channel Chasers, Timmy zaps himself into the world of Jonny Hunt, in which he becomes part of an escape with the titular, young Jonny Hunt and his team from a laser-firing robot shaped like a scorpion in the jungle. Timmy is dressed in a pink turtleneck sweater in reference to the clothing of both Jonnys.
- In the Family Guy DTV movie Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story (which was later edited for TV as "Stu & Stewie's Excellent Adventure"), Stewie talks to his older self about the job he once had as an airline check, where he accepts entry for Jonny and his father, but not for Hadji, who he retains for a security inspection because of his race.
