Jetsons: The Movie

The Jetsons

Jellystone!

Rosie, also spelled Rosey, is one of the main characters of the Jetsons franchise. She is a hard-working robot maid employed by the Jetsons, a family from 2062, and acts as a surrogate aunt of Judy and Elroy. Her voice was originated by Jean Vander Pyl.

In DC Comics' reboot, she was George Jetson's mother, who had her mind transferred from her elderly body into a robotic one.

Character description

Rosie, despite being an old-fashioned model robot, has a gentle and warm personality. She is exceptionally dutiful with her career as a homemaker, and in addition to her motherly qualities and smart intellect, is a deeply empathetic family member. Despite having a well-meaning demeanor in general, she can be a bit sassy when she makes a sarcastic joke at times. She also speaks in a Brooklyn accent, especially when she refers to George as "Mr. J".

Development

Rosie was modeled after Hazel Brook, a spunky maid played by Shirley Booth in the 1960s sitcom series Hazel. The two characters share similar personality traits, and Rosie referring to George as "Mr. J" could be interpreted as a nod to Hazel calling her boss George Baxter "Mr. B."
