Jeopardy!
Jeopardy! is an American game show where contestants are given general knowledge questions in the form of clues that they must answer in the form of a question. The incarnation best known to modern viewers began on September 10, 1984, with host Alex Trebek, and announcer Johnny Gilbert. Previously, there were two incarnations aired between 1964 and 1979 on NBC, hosted by Art Fleming. Trebek died of stage IV pancreatic cancer in November 2020 with his last episode airing in January 2021. Ken Jennings is the current host, although he did rotate with actress Mayim Bialik.
In the world of Scooby-Doo, Jeopardy! also exists, with Velma and Shaggy taking part as contestants against a robot named Max Kilobyte, which occurred in "Total Jeopardy!," the forty-sixth episode of Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?
History
While Velma is naturally a qualified contestant, Shaggy got in only because all the entry questions were food-based.
Behind the scenes
- While Johnny's claim of Max Kilobyte being the first "robotic contestant" is true, the real-world Jeopardy! did have contestants up against a machine called IBM Watson in 2011.
- In the first chase, Mystery Incorporated and Alex go backstage and find the original set used for the 1964-1979 incarnation of Jeopardy!
