Mr. Peebles is the secondary main character in the Magilla Gorilla animated television segments, which came as part of The Magilla Gorilla Show. His voice was originated by Howard Morris.
Mr. Peebles is the owner of Peebles Pet Shop, which houses Magilla Gorilla until he is adopted, which isn't going to be anytime soon (unless you count Wanda Sykes adopting him in Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?)
In DC Comics' reboot, his name is Mel Peebles, a man who adopts Magilla and his younger sister, Maggie. When Magilla grows up and becomes a big Hollywood actor, Peebles manages him. Maggie becomes an estranged junkie and her boyfriend ends up killing Peebles, orchestrated by Beegle Beagle to frame Magilla so his rival, Grape Ape, would get all his roles.
Character description
Mr. Peebles is a kind yet short-tempered shop owner who is often exasperated by Magilla's antics, whether it be him getting caught in a tough scenario or being desperate to hand him to another person. More often, he repeatedly marks down the price of Magilla considerably until he gets adopted by one of his customers, usually someone who could benefit Magilla for their needs. The customer in question always ends up returning Magilla following his mishaps, forcing Peebles to refund their money.

Behind the scenes
In popular culture
- In The Simpsons episode "When You Dish Upon a Star," Homer sings the theme song to The Magila Gorilla Show in his sleep, then talks like he's Magilla telling Mr. Peebles not to take his banana, which then turns into wild offensive noises.
