Grape Ape is an anthropomorphic giant ape and the main title character in The Great Grape Ape Show. His voice was originated by Bob Holt.

Character description

Grape Ape is a giant purple gorilla who stands at 40 feet tall. His clothing consists of a green cap, a green bow tie, and an green shirt.

Although a well-meaning creature, Grape Ape has the intelligence of a toddler, and is prone to make mistakes by accident (typically in huge consequences). His best friend is Beegle Beagle, who gives him commands in whatever situation they are in. While he is best friends with Beegle, his size tends to initially shock and frighten those unfamiliar with him, and his presence alone has often terrified people and animals.

Both Grape Ape and Beegle ride on a small yellow van driven by the latter, where Grape Ape positions himself by standing on top of its roof. Strange as it may seem, the van can withstand Grape Ape's weight. When told to "rev up", he winds it up as though it were a friction toy car, and then hops back in once it speeds up. He can stop the van by using his feet as brakes.

Grape Ape's catchphrase is saying his name twice ("Grape Ape, Grape Ape") after anything anyone says, usually as a form of agreement or acknowledgement of what was said.
