It is the sixth overall in the Hanna-Barbera's Superstars 10 movie anthology series. It aired on May 15, 1988 in syndication. It was written by John Ludin and Tom Ruegger, and directed by Bob Goe, John Kimball, Charles A. Nichols, Jay Sarbry and Ray Patterson.

Ludin originally pitched a film starring Quick Draw McGraw, but Joseph Barbera wasn't interested and instead tasked them with an idea he had called The Good, the Bad, and the Huckleberry.[1] Ruegger and Ludin wanted to do the best Huckleberry story possible, but to their dismay, Barbera insisted that Yogi and Boo be randomly inserted into a scene, with a group of bus kids pointing them out and saying, "Look at the bears! Look at the bears! Look at the bears!"[1] Initially, they relented, thinking Barbera would forget the senseless of it, but every time they sent him a draft, he would remind them of the forgotten scene he wanted, which made no sense to them but eventually relented and obeyed their boss.[2] But they then discovered William Hanna outdid Joe by sneaking in the "lame" Daltons' "Gold, Gold, Gold" song.[2] However, they later learned that out of all the Hanna-Barbera Superstars 10 movies, The Good, the Bad, and Huckleberry Hound was the least interfered with.[1]
