Yogi Bear has become a pop culture phenomenon since its debut in 1958, with the devious Yogi Bear who reckons he is "smarter than the average bear" in his many attempts to foil Ranger Smith in stealing delicious "pic-a-nic" baskets from the tourists visiting Jellystone Park, despite the efforts of Boo Boo trying to dissuade him as his good conscious, as he knows that "Mr. Ranger" wouldn't like that.

  • "Episode Two" (series 2): On Cartoon Crimewatch, Nick Russ reports the theft of a picnic basket on Easter Sunday. In a reenactment, Yogi orders Boo Boo to provide a distraction for him, so that he can steal the picnic basket, but his plan is foiled by the appearance of Ranger Smith. Russ ponders if Boo Boo is a friend or accomplice, and notes that Yogi is distinguished by a "trilby hat." He asks viewers to call if they have any knowledge.
  • "Episode Seven" (series 2): On The Jerry Springer Show, Jerry Springer has Yogi and his nephew (yes, nephew) Boo Boo on the show as Yogi wants to confess that he has been having an affair with Ranger Smith (and I thought the nephew relation was bad enough). Boo Boo doesn't like this and is concerned for Yogi's girlfriend, Cindy. But Yogi feels powerless against Ranger Smith's "picnic basket," and calls Cindy a "trailer trash hoe." Boo Boo can't hear anymore and responds with, "Talk to the paw, cos the face ain't listening!" As Yogi and Boo Boo bicker, Jerry closes the show with his "Final Thoughts," that if you go into the woods be careful because you'll be in for a big surprise.
  • "Episode Four" (series 9): Politician Iain Duncan Smith wants cartoon characters to stop sneaking into the UK through "the channel" of Nickelodeon. Smith shows a scene that has Yogi telling Boo Boo he has an idea to steal a picnic basket, which according to Smith will lead to cartoon bears the running of prostitutes and hiring a vicious crack empire on the streets of London.

The 100K Drop

  • July 15, 2019: The duo contestants Oli and Cat choose the topic of "Fictional bears" over "Hikes," with the question being "Which of these fictional bears is usually depicted wearing nothing at all?" Oli and Cat then had to choose Yogi, Fozzie (from Muppets), Bungle (from Rainbow), and Rupert (from Rubert Bear). Cat knew that it wasn't Yogi.

Animaniacs (1993)

  • "Back in Style:" the Warner siblings were loaned off to other cartoon studios, including one run by Phil and Schmoe (parodies of Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera). One of the cartoon characters that the Warners met is a spoof of Yogi Bear, named Who Who Hooey, where they mock its superficial dialogue and flat backgrounds. The Warner siblings interfere in the lunchbox stealing escapades of Calhourn Capybara and his impressionable young sidekick, Lew Lew, parodies of Yogi and Boo Boo.

Animaniacs (2020)

  • "Suffragette City:" Yogi and Boo Boo are among the cartoon characters invited to a march by Dot Warner so that they can vote just like everybody else.

Bargain Hunt

  • "Christmas Special - Malvern 27:" Fiberglass rubbish bin lids shaped like Yogi, Huckleberry, and Boo Boo were found at a car boot sale by the red team who bought the Yogi one for £110, which they sold at auction for £80. The loss of this particular item resulted in them losing to the blue team.

  • "Wurst Episode Ever:" Walt asks the staff what their official animal watchdog would be for the Stash, with Ming's reply being Yogi, which Walt thinks is a terrible idea because all he does is steal picnic baskets.

Celebrity Gogglebox

  • "Episode 6" (series 1): Celebrities were shown the above mentioned clip of what occurred in The 100K Drop. Shaun Ryder pointed out that it can't be Yogi because he wears a hat.

The Cleveland Show

  • "Birth of a Salesman:" Terry says he'll buy Tim the bear a whole steak if he shows him his "bear penis." Cleveland then mocks him by imitating Yogi's voice when he asks, "Is it bigger than the average bear's?"
  • "Like a Boss," Tim the Bear cracks a joke when he gets off the employees' bus, pretending that one of them is Boo Boo where the picnic baskets are. He then gets serious and says that only his kind can make jokes like that as it's a negative stereotype bears have been fighting against for years.

Family Guy

  • "Hell Comes to Quahog," Meg berates Peter for getting her tank confiscated, but he tells her it's not as worse as the time he did a park ranger (likely Ranger Smith) a favor by fatally stabbing Yogi with a hunter's knife and then suffocating him to get the job done faster, while Boo Boo watches helplessly. After Peter is done, he callously orders Boo Boo to tell the other bears what he just saw. Seth MacFarlane voices Yogi.

Freakazoid!

  • "Freak-a-Panel:" When Freakazoid enters the Kids' WB panel, Tom Minton is randomly holding a sign that reads, "Yogi Bear is made of metal!" as an in-joke to the time Jean MacCurdy, head of Warner Bros. Animation, once asked him in a meeting with others if he would develop a new Yogi Bear show, with his negative response being, "Only if he were made of metal," which was itself an in-joke to Warner Bros. Animation slanting towards more DC Comics-oriented shows.[1]

The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

  • "72 Hours:" When Will warns Carlton against going to MacArthur Park, but Carlton assures him that he'll inform the park rangers if something happens, to which Will replies, "It's not that kind of park, Boo Boo!"

Full House

  • "The Return of Grandma," it is a Saturday morning and Stephanie wants to watch Bugs Bunny, but Joey who would prefer to watch Yogi Bear, says Bugs Bunny is kid's stuff and that every episode is the same, but Stephanie argues that it is the same thing with Yogi always stealing picnic baskets. When Danny wants to talk to Joey in the kitchen, he makes sure Stephanie tells him what he has missed, even though Joey has it all recorded anyway, but he likes to watch it live. Joey then spends the rest of the morning watching Yogi. It also distracts the rest of the family from cleaning up.
  • "Sisterly Love:" After learning she doesn't have to read out loud the directions for her upcoming cereal commercial, Stephanie wonders if Yogi Bear has this much trouble acting.

Futurama

  • The Beast of a Billion Backs (part 2): When asked by Calculon if he's worthy of being in the League of Robots, Bender says in a Yogi-like voice, "Worthier than the average robot."

Gilmore Girls

  • "Red Light on the Wedding Night:" Lorelei mentions Yogi Berra to Snookie, but Snookie is so hungover she thinks Lorelei said Yogi Bear.

Hailey's On It!

  • "The Umpire Strikes Back:" Scott first makes a reference to Yogi Berra by saying "It ain't over till it's over", and then says that he stole "pic a nic" baskets, which is a direct reference to Yogi Bear.

  • January 14, 2004: Host Tom Bergeron asks Bear (from Bear in the Big Blue House) what was the fastest growing type of food service in America in the past year that wasn't fine dining or family restaurants, with Bear trying to be smart by responding with a Yogi impression, saying "It was stealing picnic baskets."

  • In most episodes, Lori's pet name for her longtime boyfriend, Bobby, is "Booby Boo Boo Bear," or just "Boo Boo Bear."

  • "Life of Rhyme/Here Comes Yogi Boo Boo:" he "Here Comes Yogi Boo Boo" segment is a parody of the reality show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, where Boo Boo plays the role of, well, Honey Boo Boo.

Mind Your Language

  • "No Flowers by Request:" Mr. Brown mentioned (John) Logie Baird, the Scottish inventor of the television, but Ali thought he meant Yogi, who he watched the previous night, along with Yogi's friend Boo Boo.

Moesha

  • "(Grand)Poppa Don't Take No Mess:" Myles has a print of Yogi on his t-shirt.
  • "All This and Turkey, Too:" Moesha called Q Boo Boo Bear while speaking to him on the phone.

  • "Billy Crystal:" Sal calls Bobo the bear "Yogi the Butthead," after he doesn't find Johnny Fiama's name on the list.

The Partridge Family

  • "I Left My Heart in Cincinnati:" The Partridge Family visits King's Island, where a picture of Ranger Smith can be seen in the background at the end of the episode.

Pointless

  • "Episode 18" (series 7): The first round of questions that fell into the "Cartoon" category is Hanna-Barbera cartoon characters, with host Alexander Armstrong showing an image of several of them together. The contestants have to be able to pick out all the obscure characters that 100 anonymous public people had been able to guess. None of the contestants chose Yogi, as that was one of the least obscure being known by 83 of the anonymous public that saw the image.
    • Contestant Rhian mentioned she knew Yogi Bear as a popular one, and once the round was over, she mentioned how he was one of the ones she loved watching when she was younger.
    • Contestant John chose Boo Boo, which 27 out of the anonymous public had also chosen correctly. Cohost Richard Osman pointed out that Boo Boo first appeared in 1958.

The Ren & Stimpy Show

  • "The Big Shot!:" Stimpy becomes the co-star of Muddy Mudskipper, where they reenact one of the many chase sequences between Yogi and Ranger Smith, respectively, with Stimpy wearing a collar and necktie ala Yogi.
  • "Ren's Retirement:" The worm who eats both Ren and Stimpy in the end wears an outfit similar to early Hanna-Barbera funny animal characters, namely Yogi, while his voice and mannerisms are clearly a parody of Fred Flintstone.
  • "Stupid Sidekick Union:" Ren sets up an audition casting call from the Scab Sidekick Union to replace Stimpy after he walks out, which includes a merger between Boo Boo and Yogi, Squiddly Diddly lookalike, and a merger between Barney Rubble and Fred Flintstone.

Robot Chicken

  • "Ban on the Fun:" In the "Laff-A-Munich" sketch, Boo Boo is awoken to witness Yogi's struggle to prevent the Really Rottens from getting in, but the Dread Baron manages to shoot Boo Boo to the point of his head exploding. Dan Milano and Victor Yerrid provid the voices of Yogi and Boo Boo, respectively.

Saturday Night Live

  • "Robert Klein/Bonnie Raitt:" Klein imitates the general idea of a friendly cartoon bear in his monologue, and apparently chooses Yogi because he says, "Hi, Boo Boo."
  • "Rob Lowe/Eminem:" In a skit about a fictional Crime TV program called Pros & Cons, the participants talk about the ethics of Mystery Inc. taking the law into their own hands (which includes Scooby and Shaggy themselves), with the next episode's topic planning to "examine the concept of victims' rights in the theft of pic-a-nic baskets."

Sesame Street

  • "Episode 2129:" Preparing for Miles's first trip to the park, Gordon and Susan pack everything he should need in his stroller, including a Yogi plush doll.
  • "Episode 3908:" After Baby Bear suggests that Telly can find another computer at Hooper's Store, Telly says he's brilliant, which Baby is all too happy to agree with him by and responding, "Well, I'm smarter than the average bear."
  • "Episode 4055:" After the birth of Papa and Mama Bear's second child, Gordon asks if they she has a name, with Papa looking back into The Best Book of Bear Names Ever for suggestions, coming back with Yogi Bear, which Mama turns down, and then Boo Boo, which everyone turns down.

The Simpsons

  • "The Day the Violence Died:" Roger Myers, Jr. tries to defend himself in court by explaining that most animation plagiarizes existing properties or people; in Yogi's case it is Art Carney and possibly Yogi Berra.
  • "Much Apu About Nothing:" When an angry mob goes to the mayor after the town is overrun with an infestation of bears, Moe adds, "And these ones are smarter than the average bear. They stole my 'pic-a-nic' basket."
  • "When You Dish Upon a Star:" Homer dreams he's Yogi/Homie, with Bart as Boo-Boo/Bart-Bart. Homie is enthusiastic about swiping another "pic-a-nic" basket, when Ranger Smith/Ranger Ned pops up and asks him to stay away, which angers Homie into mauling him. Bart-Bart warns him off, but backs off when Homie asks Bart-Bart if he wants some too.
  • "Mr. Spritz Goes to Washington:" To get Krusty back on track when he runs for congressman, Homer tells Krusty he lent down the sacred document, which in reality is a kid's menu with an activity on the back where the goal is to help Yogi find the Washington Monument.
  • "Don't Fear the Roofer:" After Dr. Hibbert gives Homer electric shock therapy when Homer is the only one to see Ray Romano, he asks Homer who he sees in the room, which Homer jokingly says that he can see Dr. Hibbert, Marge, and Yogi Bear.
  • "Treehouse of Horror XXXI:" In the "Into the Homer-verse" segment (a parody of the film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), Homer accidentally releases Homer-Barbera, who was in the middle of getting Boo Boo to steal a "pic-a-nic meal" with him. Upon introducing himself to Homer, he says he's "smarter than the average Homer." Homer tells him he sounds like Art Carney, something Homer-Barbera doesn't want his estate to know about. After meeting Disney Princess Homer, a crow steals his crown, causing Homer-Barbera to shapeshift into a parody of Snagglepuss.
  • "Treehouse of Horror XXI:" In the "Tweenlight" segment, Edmund takes Lisa up into a tree in the forest, where down below, Yogi happily walks along with Ranger Smith's head in a basket.
  • "Marge the Meanie:" At the Comic Book Guy's shop, there is a poster of Booboo Fett, a parody of Disney+ series The Book of Boba, with Boo Boo as the title character, co-starring Yogi as a Darth Vader-type and Ranger Smith.

Teen Titans Go!

  • "Who's Laughing Now:" Beast Boy learns to live like a bear which involves stealing picnic baskets, and he believes picnic basket is pronounced "pick-a-nick" basket and gets into an argument with the rest of the Teen Titans in how it's pronounced.

  • "Pledge Week:" In the "It's All Relatives" segment, Babs acts and dresses like Yogi (with an authentic background to match) in the hopes that this impression is what her grandmother wants to see.

  • "The Trouble with Fixit:" After fighting a bear, Sideswipe tells Jetstorm and Slipstream they should get out of the woods before "Yogi" shows up again.

Whose Line Is It Anyway? (US)

  • November 21, 2001: A game of "Press Conference" had Colin Mochrie as Yogi announcing he killed Boo Boo. The host, Drew Carrey, points out that the audience may not like Boo Boo, as they cheered at the fact he was killed.
  • January 31, 2002: A game of "Questionable Impersonations" had Brad Sherwood asking Boo Boo when Mr. Ed's wife was due, with Ryan Stiles as Mr. Ed believing that Yogi was the doctor.

  • "Wheel of Enormous Proportions": A question you can get is "Pick all characters from Hanna-Barbera" where Yogi is listed as one of the options.
