"A Date with Jet Screamer" is the second episode of The Jetsons season one. It aired on September 30, 1962 on ABC. It was written by Harvey Bullock, and produced and directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, the creators of the show and the co-founders of Hanna-Barbera Productions.

Judy wins a date with teen pop sensation, Jet Screamer, after winning a songwriting contest.

Aftermath

When The Jetsons originally aired, no title cards were present. They were only added when the series was revived in the 1980s, and the original episodes were given title cards for consistency. Notably, they all include Orbitty, who wasn't in the original series.

Behind the scenes

• The first season didn't have title cards when it originally aired. The title card comes from when the series was revived in the 1980s for a second season.
• George reveals his middle initial to be "J."
• Howard Morris's wild performance of Jet Screamer, encouraged Janet Waldo to get looser with Judy throughout the episode.
• Morris did the singing separately, but years later couldn't remember singing or even doing the speaking voice of Jet Screamer.
• Waldo provides audio commentary for this episode on the first season DVD set and the Blu-ray transfer.

Errors

• While Judy watches Jet is performing at the Swivel Lounge live, the Jet Screamer Fan Club is watching from a room that looks identical to the room where Judy and her friends performed the Solar Swivel at her house.

Everlasting influence

• In 1995, the Violet Femmes recorded a cover of "Eep Opp Ork Ah-Ah" (which included a music video) for Saturday Morning: Cartoons' Greatest Hits.
• Jet has a non-speaking character in the Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law episode "Guitar Control."
• "Eep Opp, Ork Ah-Ah" appears on the Billboard for the Hot 100 Cartoon Songs in The Cleveland Show episode "Harder, Better, Faster, Browner".
