Behind the scenes
- Max lists this as a season three episode.
- The opening intro gag is of Tubb's hot dog shooting out of its bun as he attempts to eat it, which causes all the buildings to topple down.
- Seeing as this is an episode centered around Peter Potamus, the town weeb, there are many references to anime and manga:
- Peter has a piece of merchandise from an anime called I Fell Into a Coma, and Woke Up as a Shoe, and Now I'm a Basketball Player For the Cosmic Space Prince. This is a parody of isekai anime, which often involves being reincarnated into inanimate objects. The overly long title is also a reference to the excessively long titles of various anime like Ore no Imōto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai, roughly translated to "My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute" and Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui!, translated to "No Matter How I Look at It, It's You Guys' Fault I'm Not Popular!"
- The Hong Kong Phooey anime takes place during a "tournament arc," which is a parody of tournament arcs in anime such as the Dark Tournament in Yu Yu Hakusho.
- Peter and Augie defeat Little Rok by performing the Kamehameha, a signature move of Goku from the Dragonball manga/anime franchise.
- At one point in the episode, Little Rok says "Believe It!", which is the catchphrase of the titular character from the Naruto manga/anime franchise.
- Hong Kong defeats his rival using trading cards, which is a reference to the Yu-Gi-Oh trading card game/manga/anime series.
- After Phooey's rival is defeated, Spot says they can now revive their dead mother, which is a reference to the Full Metal Alchemist manga/anime series.
- The anime versions of Hong Kong and Spot are brothers.
Errors
- Despite Little Rok referring to his museum as Little Rok's Big Museum of Anime and Manga Memorabilia in the commercial, the sign on the building says "Lil' Rok's Museum."
- Jeff Bergman and Bernardo de Paula are credited for voicing Wally and Mildew, respectively, even though neither of them appears.
- Peter has a manga called "Oh My Gosh! They're All Dead" but the Japanese on the book says "Utsubyo Man", which roughly translates to "Depressed Man".
Legacy
- Peter and the kids' friendship continues in "Space Con."
