Release

Dates are in order of release:

  • United States: November 6, 1982 on ABC
  • Germany: September 10, 1999 on Junior (first segment on channel)

Behind the scenes

  • This episode is believed to be loosely inspired by the Robert Louis Stevenson book Treasure Island.
  • This is the only time Darla wears a swimsuit in this series.
  • Pirates were also featured in the Our Gang short Shiver My Timbers.
  • There is no swordplay in this episode, due to laws in which weapons and violence were not allowed to be depicted in Saturday morning cartoons.

Errors

  • At the beginning of this segment, Darla and Alfalfa were laying on the beach near the foot of a cliff. Isn't this practice dangerous for young children? What if there was to be a landslide in the area?
