Buckwheat is a main character in The Little Rascals animated television series. He is voiced by Shavar Ross.
Character description
He is depicted in the cartoon series to be a science whiz and inventor. He is a very important member of the Rascals, and his inventions - which are created using random objects that are usually sought-after - can come in handy on the kids' missions to fight criminal activity, foil Butch's or Waldo's tactics, or help adult strangers in need - all in an efficient manner.
In the original theatrical shorts in the 1930s and 1940s, his speech sounded non-understandable to the rest of the Rascals; but in this cartoon revival series, the negative stereotypes associated with the live-action character were removed and as a result, the cartoon version of the character sounded very articulate and clear. However, his best friend, Porky, spoke with garbled speech in the cartoon series - particularly in the first season. But despite that, Buckwheat is the only character who can understand and decipher Porky's garbled speech and interpret it for the kids, usually upon the request of Darla or Spanky.
