"The Astrosmurf" is the first episode of The Smurfs season one. It aired on September 12, 1981 on NBC. It was written by Len Janson, and voice directed by Gordon Hunt.
The Smurfs make Dreamy's wish come true by making him believe he's traveled to another planet.

Development
The Astromsurf was a comic book published in 1970. It was written by Peyo, Yvan Delaporte, and Gos, and illustrated by Peyo and Gos. Hanna-Barbera then adapted this as the first episode to air in 1981, being adapted by Les Jansen. Peyo and Delaporte are only given creator acknowledgment.

Behind the scenes
- This episode is based on the original comic book story of the same name, with elements from another story titled "The Flying Smurf".
- The Swoofs that appeared in the original story were orange instead of green, and Smurfette, Gargamel, and Azrael do not appear in the original version.
- Similarly, Handy does not appear in this episode, but did appear in the comic.
- The Papercutz reprint of the comic changes the Swoofs' skin color to green to match their appearance in the cartoon, although the Grandpa Swoof's (renamed Papa Swoof) beard is still black.
- Papa Smurf is exactly 543 years old in this episode.
