Release

Dates are in order of release:

Behind the scenes

  • The Humungonauts and "The Words Get Stuck in My Throat" are a tribute to the Japanese Toho 1966 movie Sanda tai Gaira; rereleased in America in 1970 as The War of the Gargantuas.
  • Sheriff Stone's Hawaiian shirt, in addition to his mustache, makes him resemble Hawaiian resident Thomas Magnum from the 1980s TV series Magnum P.I.
  • Shaggy's attic bedroom is reminiscent of Greg's attic bedroom from the sitcom The Brady Bunch.
  • Shaggy says "Zoinks" four times.
  • Special thanks are given to Joe Ruby and Ken Spears, not because they worked on this episode, but because they created Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!

Errors

  • Despite the title card spelling them as Humungonauts, the voice credits spell them as Humongonauts.
  • Despite being called Max Minner Insurance Agency on the radio, all the signs say Max Minner Insurance.
  • The Crystal Cove Stadium was previously called Terror Dome Stadium in "In Fear of the Phantom."

Legacy

  • Sheriff Stone wears his same off-duty Hawaiian shirt in "The Wild Brood."
  • The Tiki Tub is rebuilt in "The Wild Brood."
  • Shaggy chooses Scooby over Velma in the next episode, "Howl of the Fright Hound."

Marketing and promotion

The episode inspired the ninth stage of Cartoon Network to update their online game, Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated: Crystal Cove Online, which was updated at the time of the episode's release.
