"A Date with Jet Screamer" is the second episode of The Jetsons season one. It aired on September 30, 1962 on ABC. It was written by Harvey Bullock, and produced and directed by William Hanna and Joe Barbera, the creators of the show and the co-founders of Hanna-Barbera Productions.

Judy wins a date with teen pop sensation, Jet Screamer, after winning a song writing contest.

Development

When The Jetsons originally aired no title cards were present. The were only added when the series was revived in the 1980s, and the original episodes were given title cards for consistency. Notably, the all include Orbitty, who wasn't in the original series.

Behind the scenes

• The first season didn't have title cards when it originally aired. The title card comes from when the series was revived in the 1980's for a second season.
• George reveals his middle initial to be "J."
• Howard Morris's wild performance of Jet Screamer, encouraged Janet Waldo to get more loose with Judy throughout the episode.
• Morris did the singing separately, but years later couldn't remember singing or even doing the speaking voice of Jet Screamer.
• Waldo provides audio commentary for this episode on The Jetsons: The Complete First Season DVD, which was later included on The Jetsons: The Complete Original Series Blu-ray.

Errors

• While Judy watches Jet is performing at the Swivel Lounge live, the Jet Screamer Fan Club are watching from a room that looks identical to the room where Judy and her friends performed the Solar Swivel at her house.

Everlasting influence

In 1995, the Violet Femmes recorded a cover of "Eep Opp Ork Ah-Ah" (which included a music video) for Saturday Morning: Cartoons' Greatest Hits.
