The name first appeared in the book, The Art of Hanna-Barbera in 1989, and that's what it was referred to as ever since. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 06:59, 6 September 2021 (UTC)

Everyone, I recently found a 2014 blog post from Yowp surrounding the development of The Hanna-Barbera New Cartoon Series. There's a whole lot of information but here are the things that I read so far:
- Touché Turtle started as a character known as "Hairbrain Hare" (or "Hairbreath Hare" in one of the concept arts)
- "Hairbrain Hare" and Lippy the Lion, were mentioned as early as October 20, 1960 on Variety magazine
- As reported by Variety on October 31, 1961, Bill Thompson and Paul Frees were mentioned as the voices in the Wally Gator segments. According to Yowp, Frees was possibly cast as the title character due to his cache of voices, though it didn't happen because it might've been too similar to Captain Peachfuzz; a character he voiced in Jay Ward's Rocky and Bullwinkle
