I feel like these should be treated as a continuation of the theatrical shorts since that was the obvious intention. HBO Max does treat them as a separate series, but then they've also treated every MGM short with cats as a Tom and Jerry short. It just makes more sense to treat Tom and Jerry in New York as the next series after The Tom and Jerry Show than this weird two-short series. -- Signed by James (talk) 20:59, 20 June 2021 (UTC)

Of course that would also be like treating Looney Tunes Cartoons as a continuation of the theatrical Looney Tunes shorts, but this Tom and Jerry thing seems different. -- Signed by James (talk) 21:00, 20 June 2021 (UTC)
I think the main intention was to recreate, continue and cash in on Tom and Jerry, I mean, it's a pretty big franchise that practically everyone knows what it is. I would say it's a continuation since it uses the classic original animation from the original theatrical shorts. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 21:04, 20 June 2021 (UTC)
Wouldn't Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? also be a continuation of the original? -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 21:06, 20 June 2021 (UTC)
It's a continuation as in a sequel, but it's still its own thing. It's not like the first episode of the series is actually the 26th overall. But, there's also The New Scooby-Doo Movies to factor in. "On a Roll" and "The House That Cat Built" feel like they could just be the 163rd and 164th in the theatrical series. -- Signed by James (talk) 05:05, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, they could be a continuation, kinda wish it lasted longer though. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 21:07, 21 June 2021 (UTC)

I'm not even sure how official calling it "Tom and Jerry Special Shorts" is? I mean, by default, I guess HBO Max calling it that would make it official, but HBO Max and Warner quietly added it without any promotion. I imagine they at least set it apart as a "Tom and Jerry Special Shorts" to at least make it visible to subscribers who would see that they had added something new without doing anything to advertise it outside of the service. -- Signed by James (talk) 20:21, 21 June 2021 (UTC)

I guess what they mean is it being an HBO Max original with the classic theatrical animation, though I'm not really sure. Your right, they didn't do a good job in advertising it. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 21:07, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
I forgot to mention that the episodes themselves aren't referred to as "special shorts", they're just called "Tom and Jerry" and the title cards are styled in the same way as the theatrical shorts (or at least the ones that had that style). -- Signed by James (talk) 21:08, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
