The Monchhichis/Little Rascals/Richie Rich Show is an animated American television series produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions for ABC's Saturday morning children's programming. This series featured the final seasons of The Little Rascals and Richie Rich. The series ran from 1983 to 1984.
Production
Despite the lack of success of The Little Rascals cartoon series during its first season (due primarily to competition against Smurfs on NBC, which was highly successful), with which Richie Rich was traditionally paired, both series got renewed for a second and fourth season respectively, but with a significant downsizing of the number of segments in the 1983-1984 season - implying that budget cuts were at play.
Only nine original 11-minute segments of The Little Rascals and Richie Rich Zillion Dollar Adventures were produced during that season, with four segments from the 1982-1983 season of each series being rebroadcast sporadically. As a result, the 30-second Little Rascals comedy skits and the Richie Rich Riches, Gems and Treasure Chest segments were discontinued. Also, the original Richie Rich Zillion Dollar Adventures segments produced for this series now have a writer credit over a still image of the segment's logo (which is no longer animated) - implying that they were original stories due to the demise of Harvey Comics Publications in 1982, though the titles from the comic book stories published in late 1981 or 1982 were still used.
This season of Richie Rich introduced the final new characters in the series: Jackie Jokers, who is Richie's friend in the entertainment industry, mainly stand-up comedy; and Pee Wee Friendly, the younger brother of Freckles Friendly, having made his only appearance in the series on the final original segment, "Video World".
