Talk:Farmer Smith (Tricks and Treats)

It's hard to determine if Smith was the antagonist of Tricks and Treats or if Hokey was because Hokey is the main character but he was tricking Smith for a selfish reason while Smith was altogether confused and mixed up in the situation. Nonetheless, I'm going with Hokey as the main antagonist since he was feeding off Smith's food and place without his knowledge. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 20:18, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
- It's kind of similar to a Scooby short, where he and Shaggy were causing some trouble, I want to say stealing a chicken that they thought was real on a TV set, and the guard angrily chased them. He was technically in the right and not the villain, but because he was a threat to Scooby and Shaggy, he has to be treated as a villain. That always bugs me. -- MisterJames (talk) 20:36, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
- My exact point, although Hokey is the protagonist, he was also the one who started the entire plot of the episode, he was also considered the antagonist of the very next episode. I think Hokey usually starts up the plot of pretty much every episode usually by him starting up some scheme to get food, money, a place to stay or just to get famous in some way, then trying to succeed with his desired goal. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 20:49, 31 May 2021 (UTC)
- My main concern is if characters like Ranger Smith, Charlie Dibble, Mr. Twiddle and Colonel Fuzzby count under "villains", I would say Smith and Fuzzby would count because I don't think they care what happens to our protagonist (namely referring to Fuzzby on this one), while the other two are just doing their jobs. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 08:47, 2 June 2021 (UTC)
- I guess at some point one of these would have to be taken as a villain. What about the human in It's the Hair Bear Bunch? -- MisterJames (talk) 08:49, 2 June 2021 (UTC)
- There was two human characters in that, Mr. Peevly and Botch, I guess your probably referring to Peevly. I forgot to mention Mr. Peebles, Officer Bullhorn and the King. I won't count Ranger Rangerfield as a villain because his personality wasn't grouchy like the others pretty much were. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 16:17, 2 June 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah, Peevly. -- MisterJames (talk) 16:23, 2 June 2021 (UTC)
- I think for Peevly, it's the same setup as of Ranger Smith. I mean usually these characters are portrayed as the antagonist of the shorts or shows. I don't know entirely if they would count under there but I guess if the series aims at these characters being villains, we could work with it. As for the Hokey situation, some farmers are actually more villainous than Hokey himself, such as the one in "Robot Plot". -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 16:34, 2 June 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah, Peevly. -- MisterJames (talk) 16:23, 2 June 2021 (UTC)
