Talk:Ding-a-Ling
I read some comics, Ding-a-Ling is said to be a fox. Yet in the series, he's said as a wolf. This is getting confusing. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 02:38, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
- I guess Harvey Birdman made the joke of Ding-a-Ling being a fox, because on the porn site, a nude Ding image (don't worry, he pretty much didn't wear pants for over 60 years anyway) appears with the word "Foxy" appearing next to him. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 17:44, 16 March 2021 (UTC)
- The Hanna-Barbera Band Wagon comics also present him as a fox. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 06:07, 3 May 2021 (UTC)
I have a theory that might help explain the species issue, Ding-a-Ling might be part wolf, part fox, this might explain his fox-like features and yet he's mentioned as a wolf in the series. This can also help the Hokey comics be canon to the series. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 00:29, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
Main image
I changed the picture because Ding is usually happy. So it doesn't really make sense for the former to be used. Also I've been wounding if the Golden Book versions should be on the infobox or not because they have differences from the series (usually). Hokey and Ding impartiality don't have many differences in later appearances (in Yogi's Ark Lark and Yogi's Gang (Hokey alone) they look nothing different from the original). -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 22:51, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
- I guess there's the tone and texture which comes from the change of studios they use. Like going from a flat version to a little more three dimension. Aside from that, I'd say there's some difference in Yo, Yogi! -- MisterJames (talk) 23:39, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
- There are some differences between Hokey and his later appearances, I've actually mentioned this before that his fur appears more tan in later appearances. I'm not sure if it's just bad television quality or if his fur was meant to be like that and they just messed it up in the series by making it darker. They definitely had changes in Yo, Yogi!. Considering Augie appears in this series (when he's still the same age???) I won't count it as canon, so we should definitely have their images from that series in their infoboxes though I won't include having Yo, Yogi! incarnations that look nothing different from the original like Snooper, Blabber, Quick Draw, Baba Looey, Pixie, Dixie, Jinks or Augie because there just isn't much differences when think about it. What do you think about this? -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 23:55, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
- I think it would be okay to leave those ones out. Also, I was weirded out by how Augie was kept as a child, but wasn't changed personality-wise. He was 100% the same, while Yogi and his gang who were reduced to kids, were actually written and dressed to fit in. I guess this is because they didn't want to lose that repertoire between Daddy and Augie. -- MisterJames (talk) 01:02, 22 January 2021 (UTC)
- Also, plot wise reasons because there were two episodes involving him as part of the plot - one where he was kidnapped and another where he was tricked into selling the mall out to a con artist - I still think they could have made him at least a little younger or changed him in some way. He wasn't the only victim of this. Lippy looks exactly the same while Hardy's a pre-teen. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 06:57, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
- BTW I've added the Golden Book incarnations of Huck, Hokey and Ding (I believe that this is the only Golden Book appearance of Hokey and Ding). How does it look to you? -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 07:46, 25 January 2021 (UTC)
- Honestly, I wish I could say they are of significance, but I don't really see much need. The best Ding-a-Ling and Huck's image would be of is their gallery. I wouldn't use the Golden Book incarnations of Mystery Inc. since they look not much different. On the other hand, I guess since there's limited choice compared to Scooby, it wouldn't hurt. -- MisterJames (talk) 12:17, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

Quote
I would like to rephrase that Ding-a-Ling actually has a quote in the Hokey Wolf shorts, it went something like "Hokey is so smart, he's my hero. (sometimes with "He knows everything!" at the end). -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 08:04, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
- He's closer to Blabber than I thought. The main difference seems to be that Hokey is a scam artist that Ding-a-Ling follows, while Snooper and Blabber are both good guys working for the same goal, Blabber just follows Snooper's lead. -- MisterJames (talk) 11:51, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
- Exactly, there are similarities between Ding-a-Ling and Blabber Mouse. Unlike Hokey, Ding-a-Ling isn't altogether villainous (I don't think he's smart enough to be scamming people if he's been fooled by Hokey multiple times in the past[1]), he just follows Hokey around and idolizes him and that's it, he doesn't have much of a personality and isn't important enough to appear with Hokey in later appearances (such as Laff-a-Lympics and Yogi's Treasure Hunt). Blabber on the other hand has almost always followed Snooper. Like Ding-a-Ling, Blabber idolizes Snooper while doing their cases (with mixed results). I don't believe Blabber was that smart ether (I watched the first few episodes of their segment awhile back). Snooper seems to be smart (not in a scammer way like Hokey of course). Snooper sets up the traps for the crook(s) to get caught in. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 16:51, 12 February 2021 (UTC)
- Looking back at Hokey's shorts, most of what Ding-a-Ling did was stand there or follow Hokey. He didn't seem to do much outside of that. Guess it makes sense now why HB didn't use him much after the series Lol. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 17:59, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

Appearances
The episodes from Yogi Bear Show and Yo, Yogi! should be indented with the number. -- MisterJames (talk) 17:46, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
- Okay. It's odd how Hokey and Ding had so many differences in that series, yet they only appeared in two episodes. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 17:53, 15 March 2021 (UTC)
Surname
I'm becoming (somewhat) convinced that "Wolf" surname was in some way real because in the comics, he was a fox and his surname was "Fox", so maybe his surname in the series was "Wolf" and it just wasn't important enough to mention? -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 20:33, 21 March 2021 (UTC)
CN commercial cameo
It's surprising he actually made a cameo in that "The Best Place for Sidekicks" commercial. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 07:51, 31 March 2021 (UTC)
Name
His name sounds a little disturbing, Lol. I mean it could also mean that he's an idiot (he appears to not be as smart as Hokey). -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 18:36, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
Jellystone!
Fun fact: I actually listed all of those appearances while watching the series. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 01:44, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, no neither him or Hokey spoke yet. Top Cat doesn't sound like Phil Slivers in this series, so if Hokey does talk, he probably won't sound like Phil Slivers either. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 09:18, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
- I say this because the "Phil Slivers" thing has long sense been outdated. Although Daddy still has a close voice impression to Jimmy Durante in this series. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 06:33, 10 August 2021 (UTC)
Theory
I have a theory that he's a mix between a wolf and a fox. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 00:10, 25 August 2021 (UTC)
Buddy Hackett
It's funny because I didn't know Buddy voiced any HB characters until later on, Ding's voice impression seems to have been based on his. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 19:31, 10 February 2022 (UTC)
