Jellystone!

Lambsy Divey is an anthropomorphic lamb and the main protagonist in the It's the Wolf animated television shorts. His voice was originated by Daws Butler.

Character description

Lambsy is generally a helpless, innocent lamb who is seen taking up a new hobby/interest in every short. He is at first fooled by Mildew's disguises, but he always finds out in the end. His catchphrase is "IT'S THE WOL-UF! IT'S THE WOL-UF!" which cues Bristlehound to come save him. Lambsy also has some other variating phrases, usually the first time Mildew tries to grab him in each episode. Mildew turns up in disguise, but Lambsy is suspicious. "That's not <whatever the wolf is pretending to be>. Now who could that be? Is it <insert a couple of rhyming or alliterative possibilities, e.g., A blue gnu from Kalamazoo>? Uh-uh. I know who that is..."

Lambsy is a white-furred lamb, with gray skin. The only piece of clothing he wears is a blue scarf.

Biography

It's the Wolf!

Lambsy appears in every short. He is almost eaten by Mildew, but Bristlehound comes to save him. Some of his guessing phrases include: "meanie from Pasadenie", "fat puma from Yuma", "sassy lassie from Tallahassee", and "waiter from Decatur".

Everyone's Back in Jellystone!

He attends Jellystone Elementary School where he is taught be El Kabong. He is not chased by Mildew anymore, nor is he protected by Bristlehound, though the latter is shown attending his birthday party in "Yogi's Mid-Life Crisis." Lambsy is quite precocious; he assimilates to the business lifestyle quite quickly, wanting an ab-crunching machine so he could be "caliente", and he wanted to be a man at his birthday party. Lambsy may be Jewish, as his birthday party was somewhat similar to a Bar Mitzvah, specifically with how Lambsy was stated to be becoming a man.

Development

Lambsy's name comes from the 1944 novelty hit song "Mairzy Doats," which explained its meaning as "lambs eat ivy." In 1969, Jerry Eisenberg directed a short live-action film spoofing It's the Wolf. In it, Lambsy was portrayed by storyboard artist Bonita Versh.
