Behind the scenes

  • Hanna-Barbera's Godzilla has several key differences that separate him from his film counterpart:
    • Godzilla is depicted here as a green monster, whereas almost all other incarnations of the character have a black-to-grey color palette.
    • Godzilla's roars were performed by Ted Cassidy, rather than the traditional sound effect created by Toho. He performed similar work for the live action TV series The Incredible Hulk, which began airing the same year.
    • Godzilla's signature attack is to breathe fire in the cartoon, while most iterations have a radioactive, atomic breath beam. Despite its appearance, Godzilla's fire breath in the cartoon is also noted to be atomic in nature.
    • He is the only incarnation of the character to shoot lasers from his eyes.
  • Godzilla's size is inconsistent throughout episodes, but he is implied to be 30 stories high (roughly 325 feet; 99 meters) according to the show's theme song.
  • Ted Cassidy's roars for Godzilla were later used as sounds for Zod in the Challenge of the GoBots episode "Battle for Gobotron," the Rockasaurs in GoBots: Battle of the Rock Lords, and for El Chupacabra in Scooby-Doo! and the Monster of Mexico.
    • Outside of Hanna-Barbera productions, they were also used for Dogadon in the game Donkey Kong 64, and Pisces in the Fairy Tail episode "Kagura vs. Yukino".
