Frankenstein Jr. in the Funny Books
Development
When the Frankenstein Jr. series began its development, the title character was originally going to be a robot named Uggle Dubbly, and would have been created by a scientist named Dr. Frankenstein Jr. At the last minute, the robot was renamed to Frankenstein Jr., while the adult scientist was removed in favor of a kid controlling him.
Frankenstien Jr. is loosely based on the character of Frankenstien's monster, from the 1818 Mary Shelly novel Frankenstein. He also bears a resemblance to Boris Karloff's portrayal of the monster in the 1931 Universal film of the same name.

Behind the scenes
- Apart from Frankenstein's monster, Frankie appears to be reminiscent of Tetsujin 28-gō (also known as Gigantor) from the Japanese anime of the same name.[1]
