Music
The theme song, entitled "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?", was written by Chris Bailey, and performed by David Poe. It was produced by Vivek Maddala. The episode's main music was performed by Steven Morrell.
Release
The episode had its American premiere via the Boomerang video subscription on-demand service on July 18, 2019, then miracuously, Cartoon Network debuted it on cable on July 29, 2019 (due to Cartoon Network largely disassociating itself from airing new episodes of a Scooby-Doo series since the end of Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! season one). In the United Kingdom & Ireland, it premiered on the Boomerang TV channel on October 2, 2019, and then a couple of days later, it was followed by its Canadian premiere on Teletoon.
Behind the scenes
- With every episode's title card, one of the gang announces the guest star, which is Velma this time.
- This is a rare occasion where Scooby refers to Shaggy as "Shag."
- How many times does Fred say "Hold the phone"? Once.
- How many times does Shaggy say "Zoinks"? Once.
- Daphne claims to know over 76 different languages.
- Running gags include Shaggy and Scooby repeatedly getting caught in Crackpot Sherlock and Velma's experiments, and Crackpot Sherlock referring to Velma and Shaggy as Watson and Mrs. Hudson, respectively.
- Shaggy reveals a never before interest in Sherlock Holmes literature.
- The next episode is also in England, making it a loose duology.
- The opening of the theme song with what appears to be a castle, is actually lifted from the scene in this episode of the gang arriving outside the Tower of London. What has been altered for the theme song, though, is the appearance of bats flying out of the building and an empty Mystery Machine.
Errors
- In previous Scooby-Doo media (and in the wider Hanna-Barbera universe), Sherlock has always been real, whereas this episode explicitly states that he is a fictional character.
- Crackpot Sherlock wears protective goggles, while Velma, who's standing right beside him, doesn't. Possibly because she's already wearing glasses, although that's not quite the same.
- When Daphne translates for the security guard, she says "they" instead of "we".
- Whoever was fact-checking what toad in the hole is obviously didn't research hard enough.
