Behind the scenes

  • Darwin is named after Charles Darwin, the 19th century evolutionary biologist Charles Darwin.
  • In "The Party," he names himself "Darwin the Third," but not because there his birth family has two other Darwins, or that there is another Watterson called Darwin, but because the Wattersons owned two other fish called Darwin in "The Origins."

In popular culture

  • In the Teen Titans Go! episode "Squash & Stretch," Cyborg teaches the other members of the Teen Titans how violence is only funny when it is cartoon violence, symbolized through showing them a parody of the Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner cartoons, where Darwin and Gumball have taken the places Road Runner and Wile E., respectively.
