- The title of the episode is a reference to the song "You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch" from the 1966 animated TV special, How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
- The snowman who came to life due to a magical hat is a reference to the 1969 animated short Frosty the Snowman.
- Mojo's visit from three ghosts is a parody of Charles Dickens's 1843 story A Christmas Carol, with Mojo in the role of Ebeneezer Scrooge.
