Tom and Jerry & The Wizard of Oz is an American animated musical/comic fantasy adventure direct-to-video film based on the Tom and Jerry theatrical shorts directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera at MGM. It was released by Warner Home Video on August 23, 2011. It was written by Gene Grillo, and directed by Tony Cervone and Spike Brandt. The film is the seventh in the Tom and Jerry direct-to-video film series.
Warner Bros. Animation recreates the world of the 1939 MGM-produced film The Wizard of Oz with the meaningless addition of Tom and Jerry when they get sent to the land of Oz along with Dorothy Gale and have to seek the help of the great Wizard if they are to get back home in Kansas. Again, Tom and Jerry add nothing more to what is considered one of the greatest musical films ever made. It is simply rewritten to make Tom and Jerry appear as though they are essential protagonists to the plot when it could've played out exactly the same without them. Unless you wanted to see this movie with Tom and Jerry fights inserted throughout, then this is the perfect version for you.
No matter, because sales apparently performed well enough to justify a sequel in 2016 (five years later), which they called Tom and Jerry: Back to Oz, which is its own delightful nightmare.

Dates are in order of release:
- United States: August 23, 2011 on DVD
Behind the scenes
- Almira Gulch's first name is cut perhaps because the line that would've used her first name was cut.
- Professor Marvel's role is cut down to simply a non-speaking cameo behind Droopy at the end of the film. Having Droopy, the local haberdasher, at the end seems to be a connection to what the Guard Droopy said about being able to go back to work as a haberdashery.
- In the sequel, Professor Marvel is revealed to be the Wizard of Oz.
Errors
- It's unclear who's supposed to be the real Droopy, since the Droopy at the end of the film has hair and refers to himself as the local haberdasher, while the Winkie guard resembling Droopy seems more like the real Droopy. Are you as lost as I am?
