Behind the scenes

  • Hanna-Barbera's Godzilla has several key differences that seperate him from his film counterpart:
    • Godzilla is depicted here as a green monster, whereas almost all other incarnations of the character have a black-to-grey color palette.
    • Godzilla's roars were performed by Ted Cassidy, instead of the traditional sound effect created by Toho. He performed similar work for the live action TV series The Incredible Hulk, which began airing the same year.
    • Godzilla's signature attack is to breathe fire in the cartoon, while most iterations have a radioactive "atomic breath" or "atomic flame" beam. Despite its appearance, Godzilla's fire breath in the cartoon is also noted to be atomic in nature.
    • He is the only incarnation of the character to shoot lasers from his eyes.
  • While Godzilla's size is inconsistent throughout episodes, he is implied to be 30 stories high (roughly 325 feet; 99 meters) according to the show's theme song.
  • Despite Hanna-Barbera's rights to the character expiring after the series' conclusion in 1979, Godzilla made an unlicensed cameo in the 1988 film, Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School, alongside his unnamed daughter. His foot was only shown in that appearance.
