It has a population 67.97 million people (as of 2022) and its capital is Paris.

The country has a centuries-long status as a global centre of culture, including art, cuisine, science and philosophy, and is one of the world's leading tourist destinations. It is a semi-presidential republic and a member of the European Union (EU), the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), Group of Seven (G7), Francophonie, and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
