"The Picnic" is the thirteenth episode of The Flintstones season two, and the forty-first overall. It aired on December 15, 1961 on ABC. It was written by Jack Raymond, and produced and directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, the creators of the series and the founders of Hanna-Barbera Productions.
Jealous with the astounding records of his neighbor Joe Rockhead, Fred decides to change partners with for the annual field day games so that he can win the prized trophy, much to the annoyance of his friend Barney.

Behind the scenes
- Although he made some minor appearances in previous episodes, this is the only episode of which Joe Rockhead plays a major role in the series. He would be used very infrequently for the rest of series.
- Joe Rockhead is a member of the Lodge and his wife's name is Rita.
- One of the other Lodge members is Charlie.
- Joe mentions Fred's uncle in Texas, who has not yet made an appearance.
