Maine is a state in the New England region of the United States, and the northeastern most state in the Lower 48. It is the largest state in New England by total area and is close to the Atlantic Ocean. It is widely known for its bay-shore coastlines, picturesque coastal villages, mountains, and commercial fishing industry. It is the 23rd state of the U.S., having been admitted to the Union in 1820.
