Development

Fumbles in the pilot pitch.

In the pilot pitch, Fumbles was more so portrayed as royal, but also intelligent, he would later be reworked for the series to be more like Muttley from the Wacky Races franchise, as he would usually snicker upon someone else's misfortune.

Behind the scenes

  • Fumbles design would later be reused by Hanna-Barbera in 1974 for a new character known as "Tackles"[1], Tackles would be used in the halftime interstitials of NBC's NFL telecasts and was voiced by Allan Melvin, in which, Tackles would explain the basics of football to younger viewers.
  • Early gag sketches show a darker side of Fumbles, depicting him doing either violent or inappropriate things.
  • Fumbles bares similarities to Wacky Races character, Muttley, as both would snicker at someone else's misfortune.
