Cattanooga Cats is a series of animated segments as part of the Cattanooga Cats television series, produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions for ABC's Saturday morning children's programming debuting. It ran in 1969, airing 9 episodes that spanned one season.
The segments depicted the adventures of a fictitious rock band similar to The Archies, which are populated by anthropomorphic cats consisting of lead singer/guitarist Country, singer/bassist Kitty Jo, bassists Scoots, and drummer Groove. In addition to their gimmick as an Appalachian band, they also traveled around in a van and Kitty Jo owns a big, blue dog named Teeny Tim.
The Cats also appeared in various bumpers between other cartoons of the series, some of which are musical segments containing strong psychedelic, pop art visuals.
Although the series never saw a home media release, the episode "Witch Whacky" was originally announced to be featured on the DVD, Best of Warner Bros. 25 Cartoon Collection: Hanna-Barbera, part of the Best of Warner Bros. series, but was removed for an unknown reason.[1]
Production
An album collection of the songs was released to coincide with the series. It only contained eleven of the songs.
