Bernard "Barney" Rubble is the secondary character of the Flintstones franchise. Barney is a working-class caveman, who's job is never spoken of until after the 1960s original series when it was easier to just make him the quarry co-worker of his best friend and next door neighbor, Fred Flintstone. While Barney is away at work, at home is his wife, Betty, and the later addition of Barney and Betty's adopted son, Bamm-Bamm.

Barney's first appearance (outside of the The Flagstones pitch) was in The Flintstones episode "The Flintstone Flyer". The pitch featured the voice of Daws Butler, while the series proper had Mel Blanc.
