Jaws is a thriller film series from Universal Pictures that revolves around the attacks of a great white shark in beach hotspots. Despite the incredulous plot, which the sequels made more obvious, it began the trend of the summer blockbuster and became the highest grossing film of all time when the original was released in 1975. It is highly regarded for its direction by Steven Spielberg, which propelled him into superstardom, its impending theme by John Williams, and its casting.
The original has become highly imitative in both pop culture references and similar-looking thrillers. It also spawned three sequels, none of which involved Spielberg, and none of which were as successful or interesting as the original, written by Peter Benchley, who adapted it from his own novel in 1974. Jaws 2 is notable for its tagline, "Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water," as is Jaws 3 for being released in 3-D, while Jaws: The Revenge is notable for ignoring the complete and utter failure of Jaws 3.
Jabberjaw
- Main article: Jabberjaw (TV series)
- The Jabberjaw television series was largely based on the overall shark fad that Jaws pushed.[1] The title character Jabberjaw is obviously a great white shark, but has a talkative personality and vocal mannerisms modeled after Curly Howard of the Three Stooges.
