Development

Following the rebranding of Warner Animation Group to Warner Bros. Pictures Animation on June 9, 2023, newly-appointed CEO Bill Damaschke announced that a Flintstones origin film is in early development. Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, who previously directed for Illumination's The Super Mario Bros. Movie, are slated to be the writers of the film.[1]

On October 26, 2024, Warner Bros. Pictures Animation took to the LightBox Expo to announce that Todd Wilderman and Hamish Grieve had been chosen to direct.[2] Wilderman explained that it would be an even blend of "silliness and emotion," with focus not only on Fred Flintstone, but the rest of the gang as well. WBPA also showed footage from their sizzle reel of Fred and Barney riding the Flintmobile.[3]
