Levardis Robert Martyn "LeVar" Burton Jr. is an American actor, director, and television host, known for playing the African slave Kunta Kinte in the biographical TV miniseries Roots (1987), the host of PBS' children's educational program Reading Rainbow (1983-2006), and 24th century VISOR-wearing, starship engineer Geordi LaForge in NBC's sci-fi TV Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987-1994).

Burton reprised his role of Kunta Kinte in 1988, when ABC aired the second sequel to Roots, Roots: The Gift. He also went onto play Geordi LaForge several other times since Star Trek: The Next Generation ended, mostly notably in a series of theatrical spin-off movies from 1994 to 2002, and most recently in the third season of Star Trek: Picard on Paramount+ in 2023.
