Donald James Yarmy, known professionally as Don Adams, was an American actor, best known for playing Agent 86 Maxwell Smart, the clumsy, happy-go-lucky leading agent of CONTROL, in the 1960s spy sitcom Get Smart. This in part lead to his casting as the title character of DIC's cartoon Inspector Gadget in the 1980s.

Adams died on September 25, 2005 from lung infection at the age of 82.

Other roles

Adams reprised the role Maxwell Smart in the 1980 theatrical film The Nude Bomb, the 1989 TV movie Get Smart, Again, and finally the short-lived seven episode revival of a new Get Smart TV series in 1995.

As a voice actor, he portrayed the animated character Tennessee Tuxedo in the 1960s TV series Tennessee Tuxedo and His Tales. In the 1990s, he also continued to voice Inspector Gadget in different incarnations, including the Inspector Gadget Saves Christmas TV special, the educational spin-off series Inspector Gadget's Field Trip, and the younger Gadget Boy in Gadget Boy & Heather/Gadget Boy's Adventures in History. His last role was as Principal Hickey in several episodes of the Disney-produced Pepper Ann, which aired between 1997 to 2000, on ABC and UPN.

In 1979, Adams appeared in a TV commercial and on packaging for Ideal Toys' tabletop game Electronic Detective.
