From our point of view, the cartoon and the comic are two separate things, so Alan may not have an "M" in the cartoon, but it's a little stretch that I think is quite harmless. I imagine Hanna-Barbera was told of the comic, and it was probably treated as a collaboration, so it validates Alan M. to some degree.
