Tom Cruise was astonishingly the voice of Captain Planet for the first five episodes of Captain Planet and the Planeteers, until he was replaced with David Coburn, as Cruise took the role as a "macho superhero".[1]
When Captain Planet was first announced, Cruise personally called DIC Entertainment's talent department for the role.[2] He was already a household name back then having starred in Top Gun.
