The Good, the Bad and Huckleberry Hound is an American animated Western television film based on the Huckleberry Hound shorts of The Huckleberry Hound Show. It is the sixth overall in the Hanna-Barbera Superstars 10 movie anthology series. It aired on May 15, 1988 in syndication. It was written by John Ludin and Tom Ruegger, and directed by Bob Goe, John Kimball, Charles A. Nichols, Jay Sarbry and Ray Patterson.
The lone stranger, Huckleberry Hound, travels to Two Bit, and is tasked with jailing the roughest, toughest outlaws of the west, the Dalton Gang.

Tom Ruegger and John K. Ludin originally pitched a film starring Quick Draw McGraw, but Joseph Barbera wasn't interested and instead tasked them with an idea he had called The Good, the Bad, and the Huckleberry.[1] Ruegger and Ludin wanted to do the best Huckleberry story possible, but to their dismay, Barbera insisted that Yogi and Boo be randomly inserted into a scene, with a group of bus kids pointing them out and saying, "Look at the bears! Look at the bears! Look at the bears!"[1] Initially, they relented, thinking Barbera would forget the senseless of it, but every time they sent him a draft, he would remind them of the forgotten scene he wanted, which made no sense to them but eventually relented and obeyed their boss.[2] But they then discovered William Hanna outdid Joe by sneaking in the "lame" Daltons' "Gold, Gold, Gold" song.[2] However, they later learned that out of all the Hanna-Barbera Superstars 10 movies, The Good, the Bad, and Huckleberry Hound was the least interfered with.[1]
The final script was dated December 19, 1986.[1]
Filming
Daws Butler would record voice lines for characters like Huckleberry Hound, Yogi Bear, Quick Draw, Baba Looey, Hokey Wolf and Peter Potamus, but would soon pass away days after the release of the film, due to a heart attack.
Barbera wanted the Chuckling Chipmunk to have a very specific little giggle he enacted out himself that was to then be reenacted by Howard Morris, who did both his own laugh and then Barbera's laugh. Morris had seen Ludin inform the casting director Andrea Romano of this in the booth, and after he did the laugh he believed was Ludin's own idea, he insulted Ludin to his face, but in an unintelligible anger.[2]
