Clones or Ripoffs?

For the longest time, I've seen people point out that alot of HB classics were "clones", "ripoffs" or "duplicates" of earlier shows made by themselves, especially in the 60s my guess is that they were actually reusing the same ideas when it came to the 60s and 70s, examples?: I'll take an example from Hokey's show (which was the most apparent reused idea), Hokey's plot lines are very similar to what we had with the Yogi shorts in the 50s and to make things better, Top Cat was also a suspect in this when some of the plots started to be reused from what we had from Hokey. It might very well have been a tradition for HB to reuse the same ideas on repeat but that doesn't make them unwatchable. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 05:40, 5 October 2020 (UTC)

Actually, I think I heard Joseph Barbera confirmed that they were reusing the same ideas. But I couldn't find the source of where he confirmed it. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 15:39, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
I think I heard the same thing somewhere. -- MisterJames (talk) 20:54, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
ABC seems to have been pushing HB into making more Scooby episodes. It could very well be possible that they pushed HB into making Scooby lookalikes. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 06:13, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
I think I heard that back then, recycling plot lines was cheaper than making original plot lines (which was what alot of HB show did in those decades) which actually explains the "Yogi -> Hokey -> Top Cat" thing. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 02:34, 17 October 2020 (UTC)

Droopy

I want to include the Droopy shorts that Bill and Joe produced, I'm just not sure about the shorts before that they have no involvement with. Starting near the end suddenly would be odd, so just including all them so it's complete might be better. -- MisterJames (talk) 11:12, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

Good call adding them in, it's a similar format with the Tom and Jerry shorts and since their allowed in, it only makes sense to allow in the Droopy shorts aswell. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 10:36, 17 October 2020 (UTC)

Accurate sounding HB theory

As if this picture wasn't enough.

Every HB show could very well be filmed within the HB universe, which explains most of the fourth wall breaks. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 19:24, 11 October 2020 (UTC)

Sounds like a rational theory. -- MisterJames (talk) 10:26, 17 October 2020 (UTC)
Yogi and Huck interview.png

I also found an interview between Huck and Yogi where Huck actually mentions he had his own show. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 09:14, 20 November 2020 (UTC)

Decades

I'm trying to figure out the best layout for pages by decades. -- MisterJames (talk) 00:05, 17 October 2020 (UTC)

Sounds like a good idea. I think there should definitely be what was made in the decade. I'm thinking for segments, we could do the following:
  • *Main show name* (*year*)
    • *Segment name* (*year* if necessary)
    • *Segment name* (*year* if necessary)
    • *Segment name* (*year* if necessary)

How does that formatting work with you? -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 02:29, 17 October 2020 (UTC)

Thanks. I'll try and work that in. -- MisterJames (talk) 10:27, 17 October 2020 (UTC)

DNA

I watched a video about Hanna-Barbera's inkings that featured Joseph Barbera, the man used his own DNA for his own ink.[1] -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 23:05, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

I watched that. Pretty bizarre. Not as weird as KISS using their own blood for their Marvel comic. -- MisterJames (talk) 14:13, 20 November 2020 (UTC)

The Hanna-Barbera New Cartoon Series

Does The Hanna-Barbera New Cartoon Series exist? Let's find out the true answer: On Yowp's Blog, Yowp said it didn't exist because there wasn't any evidence of it's existence and that the three segments just aired separately. So there, it doesn't exist right? Not exactly, it did exist, here's the evidence that this wasn't just made up by Wikipedia: In a card set released by Cardz back in 1994, Wally had a card and on the back shows us the show did exist.[2] So there, the show definitely exist alright. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 02:09, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Iwao Takamoto also refers to it in his book. -- MisterJames (talk) 08:44, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
That's really interesting that he mentioned that. Maybe The Hanna-Barbera New Cartoon Series does exist and it was just a block on the channel at the time for the three new introduces. That would actually explain why Yowp didn't see it on the television schedule when those premiered and why some sources say that it did exist. If it was it's own show then WB would have released the segments on one DVD. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 20:33, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
After more research through Yowp's maze of blogs, I found out the show doesn't exist. Channel's just called it "The Hanna-Barbera New Cartoon Series" because it didn't have an actual name. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 07:22, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

Cartoon Network

I'm on the fence about covering Robot Jones, Billy & Mandy, and Courage due to the fact that even though their pilots were produced by Hanna-Barbera, when they became full-fledged series they were produced by Cartoon Network, which had itself become a full-fledged studio without any connections to Hanna-Barbera by that point. I know this is ironic and hypocritical of me to debate this since I also want to cover the shorts of Droopy, George and Junior, Barney Bear, and Screwy Squirrel, but the amount of shorts they had done weren't much, with 24 for Droopy, in comparison to the 101 episodes of Billy & Mandy and 52 of Courage the Cowardly Dog, and then there's the Underfist spin-off movie for Billy & Mandy. What blurs things are all the Hanna-Barbera cameos they have in Billy & Mandy, but overall covering just seems like a guilty self indulgence in getting more for the wiki without it making any sense.

Maybe if Hanna-Barbera had gone longer there might've been a possibility that Robot Jones, Billy & Mandy, and Courage could've gone the distance with the studio, like Powerpuff Girls and Dexter's Laboratory, but since the former series ended up being more on the side of Cartoon Network than Hanna-Barbera, I feel like it really doesn't make any sense. -- MisterJames (talk) 16:16, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
