Clones or Ripoffs?

For the longest time, I've seen people point out that alot of HB classics were "clones", "ripoffs" or "duplicates" of earlier shows made by themselves, especially in the 60s my guess is that they were actually reusing the same ideas when it came to the 60s and 70s, examples?: I'll take an example from Hokey's show (which was the most apparent reused idea), Hokey's plot lines are very similar to what we had with the Yogi shorts in the 50s and to make things better, Top Cat was also a suspect in this when some of the plots started to be reused from what we had from Hokey. It might very well have been a tradition for HB to reuse the same ideas on repeat but that doesn't make them unwatchable. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 05:40, 5 October 2020 (UTC)

Actually, I think I heard Joseph Barbera confirmed that they were reusing the same ideas. But I couldn't find the source of where he confirmed it. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 15:39, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
I think I heard the same thing somewhere. -- MisterJames (talk) 20:54, 5 October 2020 (UTC)
ABC seems to have been pushing HB into making more Scooby episodes. It could very well be possible that they pushed HB into making Scooby lookalikes. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 06:13, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
I think I heard that back then, recycling plot lines was cheaper than making original plot lines (which was what alot of HB show did in those decades) which actually explains the "Yogi -> Hokey -> Top Cat" thing. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 02:34, 17 October 2020 (UTC)

Droopy

I want to include the Droopy shorts that Bill and Joe produced, I'm just not sure about the shorts before that they have no involvement with. Starting near the end suddenly would be odd, so just including all them so it's complete might be better. -- MisterJames (talk) 11:12, 7 October 2020 (UTC)

Good call adding them in, it's a similar format with the Tom and Jerry shorts and since their allowed in, it only makes sense to allow in the Droopy shorts aswell. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 10:36, 17 October 2020 (UTC)

Accurate sounding HB theory

As if this picture wasn't enough.

Every HB show could very well be filmed within the HB universe, which explains most of the fourth wall breaks. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 19:24, 11 October 2020 (UTC)

Sounds like a rational theory. -- MisterJames (talk) 10:26, 17 October 2020 (UTC)
Yogi and Huck interview.png

I also found an interview between Huck and Yogi where Huck actually mentions he had his own show. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 09:14, 20 November 2020 (UTC)

Decades

I'm trying to figure out the best layout for pages by decades. -- MisterJames (talk) 00:05, 17 October 2020 (UTC)

Sounds like a good idea. I think there should definitely be what was made in the decade. I'm thinking for segments, we could do the following:
  • *Main show name* (*year*)
    • *Segment name* (*year* if necessary)
    • *Segment name* (*year* if necessary)
    • *Segment name* (*year* if necessary)

How does that formatting work with you? -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 02:29, 17 October 2020 (UTC)

Thanks. I'll try and work that in. -- MisterJames (talk) 10:27, 17 October 2020 (UTC)

DNA

I watched a video about Hanna-Barbera's inkings that featured Joseph Barbera, the man used his own DNA for his own ink.[1] -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 23:05, 25 October 2020 (UTC)

I watched that. Pretty bizarre. Not as weird as KISS using their own blood for their Marvel comic. -- MisterJames (talk) 14:13, 20 November 2020 (UTC)

The Hanna-Barbera New Cartoon Series

Does The Hanna-Barbera New Cartoon Series exist? Let's find out the true answer: On Yowp's Blog, Yowp said it didn't exist because there wasn't any evidence of it's existence and that the three segments just aired separately. So there, it doesn't exist right? Not exactly, it did exist, here's the evidence that this wasn't just made up by Wikipedia: In a card set released by Cardz back in 1994, Wally had a card and on the back shows us the show did exist.[2] So there, the show definitely exist alright. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 02:09, 27 January 2021 (UTC)

Iwao Takamoto also refers to it in his book. -- MisterJames (talk) 08:44, 27 January 2021 (UTC)
That's really interesting that he mentioned that. Maybe The Hanna-Barbera New Cartoon Series does exist and it was just a block on the channel at the time for the three new introduces. That would actually explain why Yowp didn't see it on the television schedule when those premiered and why some sources say that it did exist. If it was it's own show then WB would have released the segments on one DVD. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 20:33, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
After more research through Yowp's maze of blogs, I found out the show doesn't exist. Channel's just called it "The Hanna-Barbera New Cartoon Series" because it didn't have an actual name. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 07:22, 11 February 2021 (UTC)

Cartoon Network

I'm on the fence about covering Robot Jones, Billy & Mandy, and Courage due to the fact that even though their pilots were produced by Hanna-Barbera, when they became full-fledged series they were produced by Cartoon Network, which had itself become a full-fledged studio without any connections to Hanna-Barbera by that point. I know this is ironic and hypocritical of me to debate this since I also want to cover the shorts of Droopy, George and Junior, Barney Bear, and Screwy Squirrel, but the amount of shorts they had done weren't much, with 24 for Droopy, in comparison to the 101 episodes of Billy & Mandy and 52 of Courage the Cowardly Dog, and then there's the Underfist spin-off movie for Billy & Mandy. What blurs things are all the Hanna-Barbera cameos they have in Billy & Mandy, but overall covering just seems like a guilty self indulgence in getting more for the wiki without it making any sense.

Maybe if Hanna-Barbera had gone longer there might've been a possibility that Robot Jones, Billy & Mandy, and Courage could've gone the distance with the studio, like Powerpuff Girls and Dexter's Laboratory, but since the former series ended up being more on the side of Cartoon Network than Hanna-Barbera, I feel like it really doesn't make any sense. -- MisterJames (talk) 16:16, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

I've been actually thinking about that, I think we can cover the pilot episodes for these since they actually have HB involved, maybe we could also cover stuff like the characters and locations in the pilot, I wouldn't cover the entire series for these like stuff in say the episodes. Maybe we could at least cover the main show page for Billy & Mandy since it actually has HB references in it, I know Courage is (possibly) getting a crossover with Scooby at some point, but it doesn't seem Courage actually has much to do with HB outside of what I just mentioned. I don't think Robot Jones really relates to HB outside of the pilot episode. So maybe the series' could have their own articles if they relate to HB a lot, not having the episodes that have next to nothing to do with HB. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 16:34, 14 March 2021 (UTC)
Of course, the pilots and everything that happens within those pilots. We can also have a page for the Grim & Billy series because of all the HB references, as well as the episode "Modern Primitives". I meant to say about the Courage crossover that may happen. He's also appeared in bumpers with Scooby, but since we're going to have a Courage character page at some point, it doesn't seem necessary to have a Courage page at this point. I don't know of any references they might've made, and if there are, I don't think there'd be enough to justify a page. -- MisterJames (talk) 16:57, 14 March 2021 (UTC)

Fun HB facts

  • Yogi went to grow up on his own when he was a kid, without his parents help.
  • Augie and Daddy's breed of dogs are actually never mentioned.
  • Augie and Daddy's surnames are different from one another.
  • Loopy, Hokey, Ding-a-Ling and Mildew are all Timber wolves.
  • Ding-a-Ling can be mistaken as a fox due to the shape of his snot and ears and his big bushy tail.
  • Claude Pertwee is hinted to be gay, since "savages" was also used by homosexuals at the time.
    • Lynde, who did the voice was also gay himself, though not publicly.
  • The pilot episode of Where's Huddles? had Freight Train named "Night Train", Beverly absent and Marge and Penny with different designs and voices.
  • Laff-A-Lympics is the only full on series to feature both Yogi and Scooby in the same universe.
  • Grape Ape's size in Laff-A-Lympics seems to change an awful lot.
  • A team called the Grape Apers replaced the Yogi Yahooeys in some books, Grape Ape is the only remaining member of team, while the rest were replaced with a new set of cast.
  • Augie Doggie can't swim.
  • Apparently, over 50 groups of mystery solvers exist in the HB universe.
  • All HB shows take place in the same universe.
  • Yogi Bear related media aired on Nickelodeon somewhere in the 80s or 90s (I can't remember).
  • Hokey is apparently clumsy according to a comic in the 70s.
  • Blabber became Snooper's partner after Snooper put an advertisement in the supermarket about anyone being interested in taking the job to be the assistant of his.
  • Hokey is 6 (40 in wolf years).
  • Frankenstein Jr. and Grape Ape are the biggest characters in the HB universe.
  • Despite WB owning the rights to HB and all of it's properties, they rarely ever use them besides Scooby or Tom and Jerry (if that fully counts), although they are used as references in the background of more well known media like Scooby, Tom and Jerry and Looney Tunes.
  • Frank Frankenstone from the Flintstones special, the Flintstones meet the Frankenstones, had his personality changed for the Flintstones Comedy Hour, depicting him as more as a jerk.
  • It's not really explained what happened to the Guesomes.
  • The Scooby Doobies is the only team where Scooby leads.
  • Besides Muttley, a lot of snickering dogs exist in the HB universe. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 05:45, 22 March 2021 (UTC)

Welcome to the Space Jam

A lot of familiar faces in the new Space Jam 2 trailer.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olXYZOsXw_o -- MisterJames (talk) 15:03, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

Wow, that's surprising. With the way WB is, you'd think WB would only use Scooby or Tom and Jerry as cameos, but them full on using other HB characters is rare. Oh yeah and I'm not sure if this is an error, but Brian (BF's son from SCOOB!) also made a cameo in this film. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 16:06, 3 April 2021 (UTC)

John K

John Kricfalusi, simply known as just John K, who was best known as the creator of Nickelodeon's The Ren & Stimpy Show, is heavily criticized by many, not only was he making a mockery of other stuff people made on his blog (even insulting some of the HB stuff he worked on), but it was also said that he made The Ren & Stimpy Show just to do "sexual acts" with girls, quite unnerving to say the least. You can watch blameitonjorge's video on him for more information. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 06:24, 24 April 2021 (UTC)

You know how to write a good intro. I know all about John K. unfortunately. While I don't care for his work, I have to admit that Ranger Smith going to bed at 3:59AM just to get up at 4AM was pretty funny. -- MisterJames (talk) 14:56, 24 April 2021 (UTC)
Yeah, his art never appealed to me either, he had made some pretty bad stuff over the 2010's (e.t. Cans without Labels), I always question how Yogi, Huck, Bugs Bunny, Quick Draw .etc somehow inspired the art he did. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 20:31, 25 April 2021 (UTC)

The link at BuzzFeed News would be a better source than YouTube. The former is very informative, if not a disturbing account of a grown man grooming two underage girls. He's also made several blog posts about Hanna-Barbera. https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/arianelange/john-kricfalusi-ren-stimpy-underage-sexual-abuse?fbclid=IwAR1ae4MVEEoG-y4_vvQKHYBbv4y1GKKZP2WIkY31LREPI14P45YuzrtZKZk -- MisterJames (talk) 19:55, 24 April 2021 (UTC)

Yeah it would be a better source than YouTube, but I guess blameitonjorge also put research in his video. John K was a weird person, had very odd art and odd intentions as well. His art got a lot weirder as it went on from the 90's and 2000's. You can actually see he throws a lot of hate towards HB shows made in 1961 to 1989 on his blog. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 20:14, 24 April 2021 (UTC)

Behind the scenes

In this video, you actually get a little bit of a behind the scenes of Yogi Bear, The Flintstones and Hokey Wolf. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 05:06, 26 April 2021 (UTC)

...and that necktie theory some people had was apparently right according to that video. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 04:33, 24 May 2021 (UTC)

Happy Birthday Hanna-Barbera!

Today is the day when the company was founded on July 7. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 20:51, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

Aw, man. I had no idea. LOL. -- Signed by James (talk) 22:09, 7 July 2021 (UTC)

Hanna-Barbera and the other studios

I was thinking since we cover some cartoons that technically aren't made by Hanna-Barbera, we should make a category for each studio and then apply it to the pages of series, movies, episodes, etc. Like for example, adding MGM to the Tom and Jerry shorts they did, and then Filmation to their Tom and Jerry series, DIC Entertainment to the episodes of Captain Planet they did, Ruby-Spears to Thundarr, Williams Street to Space Ghost Coast to Coast, Night of the Living Doo, Harvey Birdman, and Birdgirl, and of course, Hanna-Barbera to Flintstones, Top Cat, and beyond those two, obviously, but those are all just examples. -- Signed by James (talk) 10:15, 20 July 2021 (UTC)

Sounds like a good idea, I'm in on the idea. -- Snoopy The Dog (talk) 10:23, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
