This encyclopedia is about the American animation studio Hanna-Barbera, founded by producers and directors, William Hanna and Joseph Barbera. Not only from when it started in 1957, but also about the duo's work at MGM from 1940-1957, which are now recognized as a property of Hanna-Barbera. It also covers the spin-offs that other studios have done in their stead, such as Warner Bros. Animation, as well as Ruby-Spears, a studio formed by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears, writers for Hanna-Barbera, who left to start their own studio, but still have close ties to Hanna-Barbera, since they both ended being owned by Turner Broadcasting System, which in turn was bought out by WarnerMedia (formerly TimeWarner) and remains with the studio today.
