This encyclopedia is about the American animation studio [[Hanna-Barbera]], founded by producers and directors, [[William Hanna]] and [[Joseph Barbera]]. Not only from when it started in 1957, but also about the duo's work at MGM from 1940-1957, which are now recognized as a property of Hanna-Barbera. It also covers the spin-offs that other studios have done in their stead, such as [[Warner Bros. Animation]], as well as [[Ruby-Spears]], a studio formed by [[Joe Ruby]] and [[Ken Spears]], former writers for Hanna-Barbera, who left to start their own studio, although they would end up working closely with Hanna-Barbera, making a lot of their shows perceived as Hanna-Barbera works. Both studios ended up being purchased by Turner Broadcasting System, which in turn was merged with TimeWarner (now WarnerMedia), and both of its intellectual properties remains with the studio today.
