The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians

The Hall of Justice is the main headquarters of the Super Friends in the Super Friends animated franchise. In the companion comic book, it was actually a training camp for younger superheroes like the Junior Super Friends. Their real base was a space station above the Earth.

When Hanna-Barbera decided to take the series in a serious direction, the Hall of Justice was redesigned in The Super Powers Team: Galactic Guardians.

History

Behind the scenes

  • Background supervisor Al Gmuer, designed a building similar to the Cincinnati Union Terminal, but when it came time to meet approval from ABC and executive producer Joseph Barbera, they made sure the Hall of Justice look exactly like the Union Terminal. Gmuer didn't care for this decision, as it was difficult to draw.[1]

In popular culture

  • In the Kingdom Come comic miniseries, the United Nations HQ resembles the Hall of Justice.
  • "Hall of Justice" was used as a term to refer to Metropolis's police headquarters in Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. In the episode "Lethal Weapon," the name is clearly seen on the building, although it bore little resemblance to the Union Terminal, rather it was of the faux Greco-Roman design typical of many pre-World War II United States public buildings.

  • In The Batman episode "The Joining," the Justice League operates in a Hall of Justice-like building within an asteroid that orbits Earth. Although resembling the Hall of Justice, it is called the Watchtower.
  • The Hall of Justice has a cameo in the Batman: The Brave and the Bold episode "Sidekicks Assemble!," where Batman dispatches Robin, Aqualad, and Speedy on a mission.
  • In the direct-to-video short DC Super Friends: Joker's Playhouse, the Joker takes over the Hall of Justice while the Super Friends are still inside.
  • In the Young Justice TV series, the Hall of Justice was a public front, while their real headquarters was a satellite-like space station above Earth.
  • In the The Cleveland Show episode "Mama Drama," a shooting star transition, accompanied by a narrator, occurs when Cleveland and Auntie Mama go to the Hall of Records, which resembles the Hall of Justice.
  • It is prominent in Adult Swim's Robot Chicken DC Comics Special.
  • It is the headquarters for the Farm League in DC Nation's Farm League.
  • The Hall of Justice has several cameos in Teen Titans Go!, beginning with "Two Parter: Part 1." There is also a bouncy house version in "Doomsday Preppers."

Arrowverse

  • The Hall of Justice has appeared several times in series set in what has been coined the Arrowverse, which air on The CW. It was introduced as an abandoned S.T.A.R. Labs facility in The Flash episode "Invasion!" It was referred to as the Hall of Justice in the script for the Legends of Tomorrow episode "Invasion!"[2]
    • In the Legends of Tomorrow episode "Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Five," the Flash has a table made for a small group of the superheroes he was aided by during the Crisis. When they were chatting, they heard monkey noises, which were from the escaped Gleek (who was introduced in The All-New Super Friends Hour), who escaped his cage. This was followed by the Super Friends theme song.
    • In the Supergirl episode "Back from the Future - Part One," Winn referred to it on-screen as the Hall of Justice for the first time.
