Detailed summary

Memorable quotes

Narrator: The city of Townsville, a hustling, bustling whirlwind camaraderie, friendliness, and friendship...
Frankie: Huh, me? I'm special?
Narrator: Sorry, bub, not you. I was talking about the most flamboyant mathematician, Fibonacci, debuting his Fibonacci Sequins.

Narrator: And, so, once again, the day is saved thanks to the Powerpuff Girls!

Release

Dates are in order of release:

Behind the scenes

  • In the special, the only on-screen title is "The Powerpuff Girls."
  • This is the last cartoon to be set in the original continuity, as well as the only one not to have any involvement from the creator, Craig McCracken. He is only given a creator credit out of respect.
  • Dance Pants Revolution is a parody of the Dance Dance Revolution video game series which began in Japan in 1998, before spreading out to the rest of the world.
  • Soul Hayride is a parody of the musical variety TV series Soul Train, which ran from 1971 to 2006.
  • David P. Smith, who directed the special, was previously a storyboard artist on several episodes of the series.

Errors

  • Bubbles uses ice breath on more than one occasion, but Blossom is the sister with that particular unique power.
  • The girls wear their clothes to bed, even though Professor Utonium wore his pajamas.
  • It is established that Professor Utonium originally came to Townsville to participate in Soul Hayride, which would be a great origin story if it were not for the fact that Townsville was already established as Professor Utonium's childhood hometown in "Get Back Jojo."
  • The newspaper that Professor Utonium reads is June 14, but the calendar says July.

Marketing and promotion

Ringo Starr wrote a song called "I Wish I Was a Powerpuff Girl," which was made into an animated music video with the same design as the special, which had non-speaking cameos of the Powerpuff Girls, of course.
